Should You Ever Leave Negative Feedback?
Given everything you’ve learned, you’ll probably go a long way without a negative feedback. When you’re careful in your eBay business, you’ll find it’s much more likely that you’ll be getting positives. Just keep your goals realistic. Getting your first negative feedback is much like getting that first scratch on your new car. It hurts, but at the same time, there’s a bit of relief in the pain. Now that it’s happened, the pressure to prevent it is off. A 100 percent positive feedback rating is a wonderful thing to have, but it isn’t essential to a successful eBay business, and it isn’t a requirement to guarantee your life as a PowerSeller.
During the first month or so, that negative comment will be right there on your first feedback page for all the world to see. As long as you stay busy and please more customers, that comment will get pushed further and further down your feedback comments. It won’t be too long before it’s off the first page completely. Anyone who bothers to scroll through your feedback comments is likely to understand that every seller can get a stray negative comment here and there.
Any time you find yourself in a confrontation, the one who keeps cool has an automatic advantage. It’s easy to get caught up in an escalating screaming match, and much more difficult to stay calm, but calm is what you need. When you’re calm, the other guy starts to look ridiculous. He also starts to make mistakes, because he’s allowed his emotions to take over his head. If you keep calm, you’re much more likely to be thinking clearly, and you’ll be more likely to see the solution to the confrontation. In the end, what you want is resolution, not vindication. You can be vindicated when you block this person from your auctions and make it impossible for him to ever
bother you again.
